MODA - what is a design museum?
INTRODUCTION OF MODA
MODA is the only museum in the Southeast dedicated exclusively to the study and celebration of all things design. Formed in 1989 as the Atlanta International Museum of Art & Design, MODA has grown and evolved over the years to become the Southeast’s only design museum. The museum also holds the distinction of being a Smithsonian Affiliate.
In 2011, MODA moved to its current home in the heart of the Midtown Arts District. This transition has been critical to the Museum’s recent success, offering premium street visibility and immediate proximity to the city’s most important arts organizations.
MODA strives to bring more design to Atlanta everyday. The work of its staff and board of directors is structured around two research questions:
What is the museum of the 21st century?
Can a design museum change the world?
Laura Flusche
“Under her leadership, the museum has been transformed into Atlanta’s design hub. She is a leader in design thinking and STEAM education for youth, and a trailblazer in exploring ways that a museum can serve its community in the 21st century. She fiercely maintains that design is archaeology backward.”
